History:
A hidden treasure is how we refer to this beautiful Cypress. Much like the antique heart pine, it was harvested though out the 1800’s and until 1930. The most common supply of this material is from sinker logs that were lost as they floated down river to the local saw mill. Some Cypress has been reclaimed from large docks, piers and buildings constructed in the late 1800’s on or near water. Cypress was used in this manner because its natural oil helped prevent rot and insect attack. On rare occasions, Cypress has been found left on the swampy forest floor, where the original timber harvesters of the 1800’s left it because it could not be used for building materials. Just like any hidden treasure you have to hunt to find this material, but on some occasions, if you’re lucky, you just stumble on to it.
